NFL trade deadline 2025: All the biggest moves broken down

There were numerous trades in the NFL prior to the deadline, and a few players who were expected to be traded (Breece Hall) ended up staying put. There were a few other defensive trades that were made, but I did not list them here. I did add the Williams trade in that it was a major deal for both teams.

Jaguars get: WR Jakobi Meyers and the Raiders get: 2026 fourth-round pick, 2026 sixth-round pick

Doc’s Take: Jacksonville needed to do something with all the injuries they have at wide receiver. Meyers is a veteran who will likely start right away, but his value doesn’t skyrocket unless Brian Thomas Jr. misses time.

Las Vegas loses its WR1, but that job should now go to Tre Tucker, who has looked good this season. Jack Bech likely becomes the WR2 and could be a red zone threat due to his size.

Colts get: CB Sauce Gardner and the Jets get: WR Adonai Mitchell, 2026 first-round pick, 2027 first-round pick

Doc’s Take: With the Jets losing Gardner and Williams, the defense might be as bad as Cincinnati! Mitchell gets an opportunity to be the WR2 as the Jets really have no one else to pair with Garrett Wilson.

Indianapolis gets a great cover CB in Sauce, which could help them as they make a push for the Super Bowl. They may have overspent (by a TON), but players like Sauce are hard to find.

Seahawks get: WR Rashid Shaheed and the Saints get: 2026 fourth-round pick, 2026 fifth-round pick

Doc’s Take: Shaheed gets to go from one of the worst teams in the NFC to one of the best, and he will give Sam Darnold a deep threat that Seattle has lacked. Tory Horton and Cooper Kupp lose most of their value as Shaheed should slide into the WR2 role quickly.

New Orleans traded for Devaughn Vele prior to the season and will likely give him the job vacated by Shaheed. He’s a flyer who could be useful in deeper leagues.

Chargers get: OT Trevor Penning and the Saints get: 2027 sixth-round pick

Doc’s Take: This was a solid under-the-radar get for Los Angeles, who just lost Joe Alt for the season.

Cowboys get: DT Quinnen Williams and the Jets get: DT Mazi Smith, 2026 second-round pick, 2027 first-round pick

Sep 14, 2025; East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA; New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (95) before the game against the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images

Doc’s Take: New York moved its top DL for two high draft picks and a former first-round pick (Smith). Williams was not happy and probably would have held out next year, so the Jets did a good job of getting a ton for him.

Dallas adds Williams and Logan Wilson to a team that is likely not making the playoffs, but at least Williams is someone to build around.
