Jamie Carragher 'put in his place' by Arne Slot with brutal quip by Liverpool boss

Jamie Carragher won’t be poking fun at anyone else’s trophy cabinets again.

The Liverpool great attempted to make fun of Micah Richards’ lack of a Champions League crown on CBS, but was humbled by a surprise source - Arne Slot.

Jamie Carragher 'put in his place' by Arne Slot with brutal quip by Liverpool boss

Carragher was back at Anfield to watch the Reds beat Real Madrid 1-0, but unsurprisingly the conversation quickly got silly, and Richards started the fun.

Addressing Slot post-match, he said: “I spoke to Dominik [Szoboszlai] and said ‘do the players like Jamie’ he said ‘they have no problem with Jamie’ can you confirm that?”

Slot, who was standing next to Carragher, had the perfect response, replying: “As a player or as a pundit?”

Once the laughter died down Carragher then attempted to turn the tables on Richards, only for it to spectacularly backfire.

“We’ve got Gareth Bale in the studio and this is a Champions League show,” he began.

“There’s competition for places now because I’m here, do I go back in?

“Do you think this show should have three Champions League winners or do you think we should keep Big Meeks?”

Richards was quick to point out the hypocrisy, butting in to say: “Before you answer that Jamie works every week for another broadcaster and hasn’t won the Premier League!”

Slot then had a brutal final word, adding: “Did you speak to one of our players? Because this is what all of our players say about Jamie as well!”

Carragher then managed a small dig back, finishing: “The only man who can get away with it, until he wins the Champions League!”

Later he admitted defeat on social media, posting the clip with the caption: "Put in my place by Big Meeks & Big Arne!"

Slot and Henry's bromance

There was also a nice and more serious moment in the studio as Slot and Thierry Henry continued their mutual appreciation.

Slot was previously asked the traditional ‘who’s your favourite?’ question when joining the studio, and explained it was Henry as his Arsenal teammate Dennis Bergkamp was a childhood hero.

The subject came back up and Henry explained: “It was me, he grew up with the Dennis Bergkamp generation, you guys don’t remember!”

But the Frenchman then turned serious, to address something he admires about Slot that isn’t always appreciated.

“I wanted to tell you something because it’s not always easy,” the former Monaco and Montreal manager began.

Carragher was on the sharp end of a hilarious comment by Slot

“Before and after the game I always see you being so honest and talking about the tactics you wanted to do or did and I think that’s nice because not always coaches go out before or after a game and are honest about it.

“I think sometimes your honesty is misunderstood, but I played with a lot of Dutch people and I know that sometimes honesty doesn’t always go down too well, but I appreciate it, thank you.”
