Arne Slot couldn't resist a dig at Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher following their 1-0 win over Real Madrid. The Dutch head coach offered the dressing room feelings about the former defender as he aimed a pop over his failure to win the Premier League during his playing career.
In-form midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai also weighed in on the fierce debate from the CBS Sports panel surrounding the internal opinion of the defender-turned-pundit. Carragher has moved into the Sky Sports hotseat since retiring and he has previously been tasked with dissecting Liverpool displays, which for the most part have been positive until a difficult run of late.
But the Reds have since turned it around with two wins, and two clean sheets, in as many games to reignite belief at Anfield.
Carragher was in attendance on L4 to see Liverpool beat Real Madrid in successive seasons as Alexis Mac Allister's header proved to be the difference.
The Argentine's goal after the hour mark broke the Madrid resistance, inspired by another superb goalkeeping display from Thibaut Courtois.
Away from the serious questions about tactics, philosophy and personal form, CBS Sports spoke to both Slot and Szoboszlai after the latest landmark win for the current era of Liverpool stars.
The question on the lips of the panel was whether the Reds dressing room are fond over the Champions League-winning defender. It comes after Virgil van Dijk has been involved in a public war-of-words with Manchester United and England icon Wayne Rooney, which featured it's third round on Tuesday.
However, the Hungarian played a straight bat to the question alongside Carragher, he said: "He is popular everywhere... all around the world. I think you can't name anyone who doesn't like him...."
To which the pundit responded: "Eh, that surprised you."
But the typically quick-witted Slot couldn't resist biting back at Carragher, after the pair had a tactical discussion following the opening day win over Bournemouth in August.
The Liverpool head coach was asked the same question about Carragher, surrounding the mood in the dressing room, the Dutchman answered back: "As a player or as a pundit?" Everyone was left laughing hysterically, before Slot added: "Did you speak to one of our players because this is what our players say about Jamie as well? [Not being a Premier League-winner]."
It isn't the first time that the internal reaction to the former Liverpool defender has been revealed. Carragher was vocal throughout Mohamed Salah's contract standoff.
The 47-year-old ended up being embroiled in a public back-and-forth with the Egyptian after labelling the Reds icon "selfish" for his part in the impasse. It prompted a tongue-in-cheek claim from Andy Robertson last season who said: "He's [Carragher] been getting a bit of stick in the dressing room this week, that's for sure."
