A player who stunned the Amex – and Chelsea – with an overhead kick has signed for a winless club already detached at the foot of the league.
Alireza Jahanbakshah is on board at the bottom side in a Belgian top tier currently led by Tony Bloom’s Union St Gilloise.
He has signed for the remainder of this season with FC Dender in a deal which could be extended by a year.
His new team are winless after 13 rounds of fixtures and, with four points, are already likely to go into a relegation play-off system.
Jahanbakhsh was once [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/?ref=au)’ record signing after a 21-goal season at Feyenoord which saw him top the Eredivisie charts.
Excited fans tracked what they understood to be his flight to Biggin Hill when it became clear he was about to sign for the Seagulls for £17 million.
But his career in England never really took off, despite the sensational overhead kick in front of the North Stand to earn a New Year’s Day draw with Chelsea almost six years ago.
It was one of only four goals he scored for Albon in 61 games.
He subsequently returned to the Netherlands to join Feyenoord, making 106 appearances, and was last active at SC Heerenveen.
Now 32, he remains a regular with Iran but has not played league football for almost seven months.
