In late April, Alexander-Arnold announced his intention to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract that summer and a transfer fee was then agreed with Real Madrid for him to join the Spanish side before then, in June. His Liverpool career ended on 354 games, 23 goals, 86 assists and eight major trophies.

‌

At the time, Alexander-Arnold took to social media to share a video announcing his departure, in which he said: "After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season. This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life."

‌

He described the club as being his "life" for the past two decades. Marcel later reposted the video to his Instagram Stories, adding three heart emojis. He also posted two throwback photos from Trent's early days at Liverpool.

Marcel and brother Tyler, who is the agent of Alexander-Arnold are often pictured with the full back and were at the club's trophy lift in May.

On streaming platforms Marcel often allows football fans to watch along to his reactions of games. The clash between Liverpool and Real Madrid led the brother of the former Red to talk about his "two teams".

Commentating on the lead-up to Liverpool's winner, Marcel said on his stream: "Szoboszlai crosses it in, Mac Allister 1-0!" He repeated "1-0 Mac Allister, smallest player on the pitch scores a header." He appeared in a celebratory mood when the Reds' found the back of the net.

When Alexander-Arnold made his Anfield return on the 80 minute mark Marcel changed his top and reappeared wearing a Real Madrid one. He said: "It's time baby, baby it's time."

As the full time whistle sounded and the game finished 1-0 Liverpool, Marcel told viewers "one of my teams won, the other one lost though, one of my teams won though."

One of the comments on the stream was "Trent should have stayed" to which his younger brother quickly responded "nah, too late to go back now, too late to go back. It is only a Champions League game let's calm down. Let's calm down a little bit come on."

Former Liverpool defender Alexander-Arnold made his return to Anfield amid a chorus of boos from the Anfield crowd ahead of the Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold had a grin on his face as the Liverpool fans booed him as he entered the pitch. Amazon Prime host Gabby Logan said: "Some fans have just got a glimpse of him there as he says hello to members of staff. He's ready for this."

Speaking to Amazon Prime ahead of the game, Alexander-Arnold made his feelings clear about his potential reception, and said: "Whichever way I'm received there is the decision of the fans you know. I'll always love the club, I'll always be a fan of the club.

"I'll always be thankful for the opportunities and the things that we achieved together will live with me forever. My feelings won't change towards Liverpool.

"I've got memories there that will last a lifetime and no matter how I'm received that won't change."
