Report: Aston Villa star set to double salary with 'eye-watering' contract as talks advance

Aston Villa are in advanced negotiations to extend Morgan Rogers’ contract until 2031, which will see the England international double his salary, according to TEAMtalk.

The West Midlands club are looking to secure Rogers’ future amid growing interest from Premier League sides, with talks between the two parties progressing well over an 'eye-watering' deal.

Aston Villa are set to include a ‘rich release clause’ in the 23-year-old’s new agreement, which will reportedly be close to £100m.

Rogers, who currently earns £75,000 a week, will also see his wages rise to around £150,000, making him one of the best-paid players at Villa Park.

The report claims Unai Emery considers the England international ‘untouchable’ and key to his plans of returning to the Champions League with Villa this term after they narrowly missed out on qualification in 2024/25.

Rogers’ current Aston Villa deal runs until June 2030, but the West Midlands club want to reflect his ever-growing importance to the team with an improved contract.

Emery’s side are also aware of significant interest from rival Premier League and European clubs in the 23-year-old, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United claimed to be among Rogers’ suitors.

According to the report, Rogers’ new deal is expected to be announced before Christmas, with Villa aiming to issue a ‘hands-off’ warning to interested clubs ahead of the market reopening in January.

Profit and sustainability issues saw the Villans sell midfielder Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle during the summer transfer window and make just three permanent signings, with Evan Guessand and Victor Lindelof among the arrivals.

Apart from Guessand, who has made 13 appearances and scored once, Villa’s new signings have not had much impact in Emery’s squad yet, with the Spanish tactician largely relying on his established core this term.

Rogers joined Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024 and enjoyed an impressive first full season at the West Midlands club.

The England international registered eight goals and 11 assists in 37 league appearances, helping Villa secure a sixth-place finish.

Rogers was named PFA Young Player of the Year following the campaign and has become an important player for England under Thomas Tuchel, making 10 appearances since receiving his first call-up in November last year.
