Chelsea and Spurs leading race to sign Porto star

Chelsea continue their Champions League group phase campaign with a visit to Azerbaijan to face Qarabag on Wednesday night.

The Blues have so far won two and lost one of their three games in the competition, with Enzo Maresca’s side sitting 13th in the 36-team table.

Maresca will hope to see his side continue their recent good form when they visit Baku, with the Blues having defeated London rivals Tottenham Hotspur last time out in the Premier League.

In the meantime, it has emerged that both Chelsea and Spurs are in the race to sign a prolific striker from Europe.

According to Fichajes via CaughtOffside, both Chelsea and Tottenham are frontrunners in the race to sign Porto star Samu Aghehowa.

The report claims that thew two London sides are both in commanding positions in the race to land the Spaniard, who has scored 36 goals in 57 games for Porto across all competitions since joining the club in the summer of 2024.

Aghehowa, 21, joined Porto from Atletico Madrid having failed to make a single senior appearance for the Spanish side during a year-long spell with in Madrid.

Instead, he impressed while on loan at Alaves, and earned himself a move to Porto.

The report claims that the Spaniard – who has won three caps for his country at senior international level – could be available for a fee of around £70 million next year.

Chelsea’s interest in the player comes despite the West London side having signed both Liam Delap and Joao Pedro during the recent summer transfer window.

Spurs, meanwhile, are on the hunt for a new signing to bolster Thomas Frank’s attacking options.

Aghehowa’s current contract with the Portuguese giants is set to run until the end of the 2028/29 season.
