Anton Stach tops key Premier League statistic despite admitting he does it less at Leeds United

Anton Stach is already making a name for himself at Leeds just nine games into his Premier League career.

The Germany international has left Leeds fans in hysterics with his creative social media posts on matchdays, while also standing out with his technical skills from dead ball situations.

That superb free-kick in the 3-1 win at Wolves was a fine example of that.

Anton Stach is not just a set-piece specialist, however, with figures showing he actually runs more than any other player in the entire Premier League.

Gradient Sport reveal that the German has covered more distance than anybody else in England’s top flight this season with 69.15km to his name.

It is a statistic that speaks volumes when you consider the fact Stach hasn’t even played every minute in the Premier League this term, having played only 30 minutes of the 3-0 loss at Brighton while watching the 2-1 win over West Ham from the bench.

Stach also played just 67 minutes and 73 minutes of the defeats against Tottenham and Burnley – with a broken rib no less – so the fact he sits above a number of elite athletes in the distance covered metric is highly impressive.

Interestingly, the Leeds No.15 himself actually admitted to running less in England than he was in Germany, suggesting he even has more gears to move into.

What Anton Stach said about running

During a chat with Kicker last week, the 26-year-old said he “ran more in the Bundesliga” while at Hoffenheim, which amazingly suggests he could actually cover more distance than he already is in the Premier League.

When asked to share the differences between both divisions, Stach – who Daniel Farke convinced to join – said: “It’s more dynamic. I know my running stats. I ran more in the Bundesliga, but here it’s all about sprints, dynamic runs, and counter-attacks.

“I get the feeling that every single player is incredibly athletic. In every position, you’re playing against absolute machines. I also feel that the referees are letting play continue more in challenges.”

If Stach is capable of outrunning these “absolute machines” without even playing every minute of the season so far – and while carrying an injury in some outings – Leeds fans should be very excited about what he can do once he settles in.
