‘Watch this space’ - Richard Keys shamefully makes Eddie Howe sacking claim at Newcastle United

NUFC absolutely LOVE the Carabao Cup 😍

Newcastle United currently sit 13th in the Premier League after losing to West Ham United at the weekend.

Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys has suggested Eddie Howe could be sacked by Newcastle United this season.

It has been four years since the Magpies appointed Howe - their first big call after buying the club from Mike Ashley. The 47-year-old has overseen dramatic change at St James’ Park, with Newcastle winning silverware and qualifying for the Champions League twice.

However, a dismal start to the campaign has taken the wind out of Newcastle’s sails. A clear hangover from the summer transfer window - which saw star striker Alexander Isak sold - has bled into the Premier League campaign.

West Ham United reaction

Newcastle were left reeling on Sunday when strugglers West Ham United came from behind to stun them at the London Stadium. For context, the Irons remain three points adrift from safety despite earning a 3-1 comeback win.

Many called the defeat Newcastle’s worst performance of Howe’s reign. It left the Magpies sitting 13th in the table and without an away league win.

Richard Keys makes big Eddie Howe claim

On his personal blog, disgraced TV anchor Keys claimed the Saudi project on Tyneside has “stalled” and Howe’s tenure could be about to end. He wrote: “Things aren’t right at Newcastle, are they?

“The Saudi project has clearly stalled and Eddie Howe looks tired to me. It wouldn’t surprise me if this is his last season with the Toon. Watch this space.”

Eddie Howe revisits West Ham nightmare

Howe called the West Ham loss “self-inflicted” ahead of tonight’s clash with Athletic Club. He said yesterday: “The focus always has to be on ourselves,” Howe said ahead of the Champions League match with Athletic Club on Wednesday.

"The most disappointing thing about the West Ham performance was that it felt self-inflicted. We can do a lot better. I am very much included in the bad performance. We are all together and we all have to deliver better.

“We are focused on trying to do that; there are different emotions when you play that way. We try to use performances like that as a catalyst for better. Even when you don’t perform you can still win. We didn’t deliver on that at all well. We are disappointed with our Premier League form and the inability to string consistent results together.”
