Alexander Isak has been battling a groin injury since the win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League last month.
The striker then missed defeat to Brentford as well as the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on November 1st.
Isak was also not even in the matchday squad vs Real Madrid, casting doubt over an imminent return.
The extent of his groin injury has proven more stubborn than initially anticipated, with Slot not exactly shedding too much light in his press conference update.
The Dutchman has suggested that the 26-year-old could at least make the bench vs Manchester City on Sunday but he will not start.
However, the Swedish FA seem to think that Isak is on the mend, with manager Graham Potter now calling the Liverpool No.9 up to his November squad.
This suggests that Isak will be fit to play some part in Sweden’s fixtures against Switzerland on November 15 and Slovenia the following week.
The timeframe for Isak’s return remains frustratingly uncertain, and Liverpool fans will be holding their breath that it is nothing gravely serious.
Luckily, the Sweden national team was very careful with him during his pre-season that stretched into the start of the campaign, so hopefully their cautious approach continues under Potter.
Isak has come under fire for his poor performances in Sweden’s World Cup qualifying campaign, with detractors claiming that his nation is suffering because he is not firing on all cylinders as a result of how his summer move transpired.
Sweden is bottom of their World Cup qualifying group with 1 point after four game and will struggle to qualify through this route.
But Isak can still reach the 2026 World Cup thanks to UEFA’s revamped qualification format.
With the finals expanded to 48 teams, a new playoff route exists for four of the best-performing Nations League group winners who fail to finish in the top two of their World Cup qualifying group.
Sweden secured one of those high Nations League rankings earlier this year.
If Sweden conclude their group outside the automatic spots, their Nations League standing will grant them entry to a four-team playoff next March – their last chance to qualify for next year’s tournament.
