Further details of Manchester United’s interest in Nottingham Forest ace Elliot Anderson have emerged ahead of the January transfer window.

Anderson has become a key player for the Reds since his move from Newcastle United little more than a year ago. He has also established himself as an England regular under Thomas Tuchel.

His sterling performances for club and country have seen him attract plenty of admirers of late, with United among them. So keen are the Old Trafford outfit, recent reports have suggested they could try their luck for Anderson in the new year.

TEAMtalk have backed those rumours up and state an offer is ‘being prepped’. They claim the midfielder is ‘very keen’ on the move and United are ready to ‘test Forest’s resolve’ with a structured deal worth in the region of £60 million.

Such a figure is below the Reds’ valuation of one of their prized assets. Forest are said to have placed an £80m price tag on Anderson’s head and are prepared to put up ‘stiff resistance’ if a bid does materialise.

Manchester City and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in Anderson. Additionally, Magpies boss Eddie Howe has admitted he would love to have the academy graduate back at St James’ Park.

Howe has never shied away from the fact he did not want to lose the 22-year-old when he left for the City Ground in the summer of 2024. Financial issues forced Newcastle’s hand and the Reds signed him for £35m - albeit that fee essentially became £15m as goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos headed in the opposite direction for £20m.

On whether he could see Anderson returning to Tyneside one day, Howe recently said: “I don’t know, but certainly from my perspective I would love him to. I’m very respectful of the fact he is at another football club and I would never normally talk about a player in that way, so I won’t change that stance.

“But yes, it is very regretful a player from the academy who had given so much – and the club had given so much to, the coaching staff, all those years here and how people tried to develop those talents – for him not to be utilised here is a real shame.”

Anderson has made 13 appearances in the Garibaldi so far this season. He has also impressed for the Three Lions and will surely be in contention to make next year’s World Cup squad.
