The Golden State Warriors managed to hold off Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night, earning a 118–107 victory despite Jimmy Butler leaving early with an injury and Stephen Curry battling an illness.
Even so, Curry, who admitted he felt like he was running on empty for most of the second half, led the team with 28 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Moses Moody provided the spark Golden State needed, scoring 24 points off the bench.
"Tonight, second half, the tank was on E," Curry said postgame. "I'm not blaming the air ball on that, but I was just trying to dig through it, get to the finish line, get a win, and keep it moving. I'm gonna go see the docs right now and see what's going on."
While Curry didn't have an update on his status for the second night of the back-to-back against the Sacramento Kings, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr quickly provided one, officially ruling Curry out for Wednesday's matchup.
Curry, 37, has no reason to put himself in difficult situations like playing through an illness this early in the season, especially when doing so risks spreading it to the rest of the team. That could turn what's currently a short-term issue for one player into a longer, drawn-out process of getting the entire roster back into rhythm.
Golden State sits at 5–3 overall and in sixth place in the Western Conference. After facing the Kings on Wednesday night-tipoff set for 10 p.m. ET-the Warriors won't return to the court until Friday, when they hit the road to take on the Denver Nuggets.
