Albion man named in Potter's first international squad for World Cup must-wins

Yasin Ayari has been named in Graham Potter’s first Sweden squad.

The former [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/?ref=au) head coach took charge recently with a mission of taking the side into the World Cup qualifying play-offs.

Ayari retains his place as he looks to add to his 16 international caps and three goals.

The 22-year-old has been a regular in the national team midfield of late.

But he has been part of a disappointing qualification campaign so far.

Sweden visit Switzerland and then host Slovenia in the next window needing two wins to have any chance of grabbing second place in their group.

Potter is unable to call upon Viktor Gyokeres, the striker to whom he gave a senior debut at Albion, due to injury.

His selections include a surprise first call for 30-year-old winger Gustav Lundgren.

Potter said: “I have taken help from Sebastian (Larsson) and the rest of the staff in a rewarding way to get a good look at how everything worked during previous sessions, while we have looked at as many players as possible to also identify what we need to add for the upcoming matches.”

Ayari and his colleagues will meet up on Monday, the day after Albion visit Crystal Palace, and train in Marbella before the game with Switzerland in Geneva.

Potter was named as national boss on a short-term basis with the goal of taking Sweden to the play-offs and then the finals in North America and Mexico next summer.
