The Jacksonville Jaguars turned heads in the twilight of the NFL trade deadline when they acquired wide receiver Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders. Sure, the move had been in the making, but it doesn't make it any less intriguing for a Jags team that's dealing with injuries at the position.
Just recently, Jacksonville placed two-way star Travis Hunter on Injured Reserve. Moreover, Tim Patrick has missed two consecutive games with a groin injury, while Dyami Brown suffered a concussion in the win against the Raiders. If that wasn't enough, Brian Thomas Jr. also left Week 9 with a sprain before eventually returning. Speaking of that, the team just dropped an update.
The Jaguars may be without Brian Thomas Jr. vs. the Texans
Flagship station 1010 XL posted on Twitter that Brian Thomas Jr. is dealing with a low-grade high ankle sprain, noting that the sophomore wideout could suit up against the Houston Texans in spite of the injury.
One day after the win over the Raiders, head coach Liam Coen met with the local media. When asked for an update on players who left the game, he asked reporters to wait for the injury report. That's probably why the Thomas news just surfaced.
Liam Coen refrains from commenting on any injuries from Sunday's game until Wednesday's Injury Report.
"Appreciate the guys who kept trying to come back in, and then the guys who had to step up because of injuries. Proud of them and their coaches for having them ready to play"…

Earlier this season, Thomas was the subject of trade chatter. However, Coen was quick to point out that the Jags weren't moving in from him despite the fact that he's struggled with drops throughout the year. The former LSU Tiger has posted an underwhelming catch rate of 50 percent. He's logged 30 receptions on 60 targets for 420 yards with one touchdown.
Expected to step up in light of Travis Hunter's stay on IR, there's a realistic chance Thomas won't suit up in Week 10. And even if he does, he might not be at full strength. That brings added importance to the Jakobi Mayers trade.
The Jaguars cannot catch an injury break
Before the Las Vegas Raiders game, the Jaguars had to sign Austin Trammell to the active roster and elevate Tim Jones via standard elevation. If Brian Thomas Jr. doesn't play against the Houston Texans, Jacksonville could once again be thin at receiver when it faces the Texans, even after the addition of Jakobi Meyers.
Meyers would've probably started regardless, but the Thomas Injury update suddenly puts the spotlight on his arrival. The good news is that the former North Carolina State Wolfpack is as sure-handed, posting one of the lowest-catch rates in the NFL dating back to 2020. He should definitely help Jacksonville in an area it's struggled this season.

If Brian Thomas isn't ultimately good to go against the Houston Texans, Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers could start at receiver for the Jaguars. It may not be ideal, but such is the situation they find themselves in ahead of Week 10. And now more than ever, Trevor Lawrence will need to work his magic.
