Opinion: Everton’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has already said his best position, David Moyes must…

Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is going through a tough period at the moment as his performance levels have dropped significantly**.**

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall started his Everton career so brightly, and his goal against Wolves in August really put the rest of the Premier League on notice.

However, since then, the Toffees playmaker hasn’t registered a single goal involvement and fans are starting to become really frustrated.

Dewsbury-Hall was really poor against Sunderland on Monday and it’s now really obvious that he isn’t a number 10.

With that said, the former Chelsea and Leicester City star has already said what his best position is, so Moyes must now listen.

David Moyes must now listen to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s plea

Speaking last month, Dewsbury-Hall revealed that the number eight role is his best position, so clearly he himself was starting to have doubts over his recent performances.

“I can play all positions in midfield, but I’d say my strongest point is probably in box-to-box, number eight,” the Toffees midfielder explained.

Weeks after those comments, Moyes is still persisting with Dewsbury-Hall as a number 10, but he’s quite simply just not creative enough.

As evinced by the table below, the vast majority of Dewsbury-Hall’s career have been as a central midfielder. He’s only actually played as an attacking midfielder 32 times, and his record isn’t particularly impressive.

Position Games played Goals Assists

Central Midfield 157 21 28

Defensive Midfield 82 6 10

Attacking Midfield 32 6 1

Right Midfield 8 2 1

Left Midfield 6 0 0

Centre-Forward 1 0 0

Second Striker 1 0 0

The Scotsman must now listen and drop him a bit deeper into the box-to-box role, where his traits are better suited.

That would then free up Iliman Ndiaye to play in his most favoured position as a number 10, with the £40m summer signing Tyler Dibling on the right wing.

Another thing worth noting is that Dewsbury-Hall is too one-footed to play the role of number 10, as he heavily relies on his left foot.

That immediately cuts off the avenue to play certain passes and move the ball at pace, hence why Ndiaye would be much better suited in that position.

The 25-year-old is also more agile and can operate in tighter spaces, so Moyes should trial that against Fulham this weekend.

According to the Opta supercomputer, Everton are favourites to beat Fulham at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.

It’s the final game before the international break, so it’s really important to end this period with three points.
