The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to play the Houston Texans in Week 10. However, they may not have to deal with C.J. Stroud after he suffered a concussion in the loss to the Denver Broncos.
While it's never good to see a player get hurt, Stroud's concussion raises legitimate questions about quarterbacks not sliding. If you take a dive on social media, you'll see fans and former players making compelling points for and against the move. That said, whatever Azeez Al-Shaair says about the subject matter should be taken with a grain of salt. Jaguars fans just did that in light of his baffling remarks.
Azeez Al-Shaair wonders why he got fined for knocking out Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence
In the aftermath of the loss to the Broncos, Azeez Al-Shaair spoke with reporters. He said that he was frustrated to see Kris Abrams-Draine, the player who laid the hit on Stroud, not get ejected because he knows he wasn't trying to hurt C.J. Stroud. Below's the skinny, via Adam Wexler of SportsTalk 790.
" I know that kid wasn't trying to go out there & do that because I knew I wasn't (last year w/ the hit on Lawrence)- but to see ... not only did he not get ejected, there was not even a flag," Al-Shaair told reporters. "I think that frustrated me more than anything, but because I wanted to see that kid kicked out the game just knowing out of the game just knowing that everything I dealt with a year ago."
If you read between the lines, Al-Shaair is making the situation about himself, wondering why he got fined but Abrams-Draine didn't. What he failed to disclose is that he led with his elbow when he hit Trevor Lawrence on his head, while Abrams-Draine hit Stroud on his chest with the shoulder.
Of course, Jaguars fans were quick to point out that Al-Shaair was crying wolf. Twitter user @Mntmikey719 posted a side-to-side comparison of the two hits.

Twitter user @NFG_Co, for his part, echoed what virtually every Jags fan is thinking: "This is the biggest gaslight ever. Look at his play, to this one. Completely different and BOTH were penalized; 1 didn't hold up because it was legal. He literally went to the head."
One look at the comment thread will show you that not many people sided with Al-Shaair. It's also worth noting how Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans complained about the Abrams-Draine hit but blamed Trevor Lawrence for not sliding in time.
The Jaguars have a prime opportunity to sweep the Texans
The Texans are 3-5 and third in the AFC South, so it's easy to forget that they're the reigning division champions. In Week 10, the Jaguars will have a chance to stick a fork in them and make it more difficult to crawl their way out of the hole they themselves dug.
Not having to face C.J. Stroud would certainly give Jacksonville an edge in the game. However, divisional matchups are always tough, so the Jags cannot afford to take Houston lightly.
For the time being, though, Jaguars fans should waste no time highlighting Azeez Al-Shaair's and DeMeco Ryan's hypocrisy. As they're quickly finding out, it's not fun to see their quarterback sustain a concussion because he slid.
