Team news

Newcastle are currently struggling with some new injury issues. Kieran Trippier missed his side's loss to West Ham due to illness and it remains to be seen if the England international will make the squad on Wednesday night.

Yoane Wissa, Tino Livramento and Harrison Ashby are all definitely out but Lewis Hall made it back to the matchday squad on Sunday after a thigh injury. Anthony Gordon was taken off at halftime at the weekend due to a hip issue and he may be a doubt for the Champions League fixture.

Meanwhile, Athletic Club have some injury problems of their own. Manager Ernesto Valverde lost Inaki Williams to an abductor injury during their last Champions League match and the 31-year-old striker isn't expected to return until 2026.

Williams joins a lengthy absentee list which includes: Maroan Sannadi, Benat Prados, Unai Egiluz and Inigo Lekue. Yeray Alvarez is also out until February for Athletic but this is due to a doping ban rather than an injury.
