Arne Slot couldn’t help but poke fun at Jamie Carragher following Liverpool’s win over Real Madrid

However, his comments backfired as Slot joked about what the current Liverpool dressing room says about the Anfield icon.

Arne Slot jokes about Jamie Carragher Premier League record

Carragher was down on the ground at Anfield and jokingly asked Slot whether Richards should’ve been bumped from the studio panel for having never won the Champions League.

The former Manchester City star started the jibes, after telling Slot he had asked Dominik Szoboszlai whether the current Liverpool players like Carragher or not.

“We’ve got Gareth Bale in the studio and this is a Champions League show. There’s competition for places now because I’m here, do I go back in?” Carragher responded

“Do you think this show should have three Champions League winners or do you think we should keep Big Meeks?”

Richards immediately quipped back: “Before you answer that, Jamie works every week for another broadcaster and hasn’t won the Premier League!”

Slot then had the studio in stitches with his reply.

“Did you speak to one of our players? Because this is what all of our players say about Jamie as well,” the Liverpool boss laughed.

Carragher later posted a clip of the moment on social media and admitted defeat, captioning the post: “Put in my place by Big Meeks & Big Arne!”

Liverpool fight for Real Madrid win as Trent Alexander-Arnold returns to Anfield

“Whatever way I'm received, is the decision of the fans,” Alexander-Arnold said before the match.

Every time he was on the ball, the Liverpool fans made their feelings towards him clear. Ahead of the match, Carragher predicted he would be met with a hostile environment after the nature of his departure over the summer.

“The reason why the reception will be poor tonight, which I would expect, is because Trent throughout those 20 years, as I've said, has played the position of; 'I'm a supporter on the pitch'.

“So them supporters who are all in this stadium wouldn't leave on a free transfer to go play for Real Madrid. Now, okay, it's his career, he gets one career, he's a young man, he's been brilliantly successful at the club.

“But what he's said since he's got in the team, if that were to be true, and Liverpool is the only team for him and he wants to be their captain, he wants to be a legend here... You don't leave when you've just won the league title and you've got the opportunity to go win more trophies with your club.

“So, I totally understand the reaction of the supporters. And a lot of it is because they feel like they have been hoodwinked a little bit by Trent throughout the process of him being at the club.”
