Victor Wembanyama looks like an MVP candidate through the first few games of the season. He’s started the year spectacularly, leading the San Antonio Spurs to a 5-1 record. But he’s been far from the only impressive NBA superstar; Luka Doncic is outshining everyone so far.
The Los Angeles Lakers man is averaging more than 40 points per game in his first four appearances. In a recent win against the Miami Heat, he also recorded his first triple-double of the year. And asked about the Slovenian in an interview, Wemby was very complimentary.

“Luka is one of the hardest players to scout because he understands and masters the game more than anyone else. It’s always a great challenge. I don’t think I’ve ever won against him*,*” Wembanyama told the media during Spurs practice ahead of their upcoming game against the Lakers.

The Frenchman has played against Doncic in four NBA games during his career. Wemby’s right in saying he’s never won, too; all four games have ended in a Luka victory. Doncic averages 26.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 10.5 assists per game against the Spurs in those clashes.

This will, however, be the first time that Wemby takes on Lakers Luka. It will be interesting to see how it pans out. The matchup is must-see TV for basketball fans, though, and the winner will see their MVP case get much stronger.
