This season isn’t quite as uncertain for Richard Hughes when it comes to Liverpool players nearing the end of their contracts, though there remains the potential for a significant loss of experience next summer.
One player whose future appears increasingly uncertain is Ibrahima Konate, with contract talks between the club and the France international having stalled.
Konate is now in the final year of his deal, and negotiations over an extension have yet to produce any breakthrough.
Real Madrid are monitoring the situation closely as they consider a free transfer.
A scenario the Premier League champions know all too well following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s summer switch to the Santiago Bernabeu, albeit one that involved a modest fee in the end.
Konate has made 15 appearances and scored once for the Reds across all competitions this season.
According to Foot Mercato, Ibrahima Konate is eager to join Real Madrid as his contract with Liverpool approaches its final months.
The French defender will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with other clubs from January.
Konate is reportedly open to a move away from Merseyside in search of a new challenge.
However, a transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu may not be straightforward.
Foot Mercato reports that Dayot Upamecano has emerged as Real Madrid’s priority target, with a verbal agreement potentially already in place with the Bayern Munich centre-back.
Like Konate, Upamecano’s current deal expires at the end of the season, meaning the Liverpool defender could now be considered a backup option for Los Blancos.
There is also interest from Paris Saint-Germain, while Liverpool are understood to have presented Konate with an offer to extend his stay at Anfield.
Konate played a key role in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
