Manchester United youngster Kai Rooney has taken to social media to share a positive injury update following a heart-breaking admission made earlier this year.

The eldest son of United legend - Wayne Rooney - is hoping to follow in his father's footsteps and forge his own career in the professional game.

Kai has been in fine form for United's youth sides in recent months, but picked up an injury and he declared: 'Life couldn't get any worse,' after the setback.

However, the youngster, who also enjoyed his 16th birthday earlier this month, has shared a fresh update, which bodes well for United.

Kai has taken to his Instagram account while posing in his United training gear - posting two sand timer emojis - hinting that a return to action may not be too far away.

The forward has previously updated fans on his return from injury, sharing images on social media in Dubai - with his foot no longer in a protective boot.

Kai caught the eye during the Super Cup NI in Northern Ireland earlier this summer, a tournament in which his father also impressed as a rising star at Everton.

The United youngster was in the midst of an impressive rise through the club's youth ranks having been called up to United's Under-19s squad - where he competed against professionals four-years older than him as a 15-year-old.

Before that call up, he'd scored an incredible goal for the Under-18s, a left-footed volley that nestled in the top corner, reminiscent of some of his famous father's brilliant strikes.

Kai has had a tough few weeks recovering from injury, but he took time to show his support for United academy graduate Marcus Rashford after the England international scored against Elche in the 3-1 win in La Liga.

The young forward shared an image of Rashford celebrating his strike on to his own social media channels.
