ALLEN PARK – As the Detroit Lions prepare for their Week 10 road matchup against the Washington Commanders, their practice squad became one player thinner Wednesday morning.
The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed third-year defender Andre Carter II off the Lions’ practice squad to their active roster. The move comes on the heels of the Dolphins trading Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles and with second-year pass rusher Chop Robinson in concussion protocol.
Carter, 25, signed with the Lions’ practice squad in August — three days after being waived by the Las Vegas Raiders at the end of training camp. During his time in Detroit, the defensive end did not appear in a game.
Still, he brings prior NFL experience. After going undrafted out of Army in 2023, Carter signed with the Minnesota Vikings and made their initial 53-man roster. He also had a brief stint last season with the Raiders.
In his career, Carter has appeared in 15 games, totaling three tackles, one quarterback hit and half a sack.
At Army, Carter was a force in 2021, earning Third-Team All-American honors after recording 44 tackles, 15.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two pass deflections and one interception.
With Carter out of the picture, it remains to be seen whether the Lions will turn to the free-agent market to add another defender to their practice squad.
