West Ham handed advice over future of key man ahead of crucial Burnley clash as Wolves dealt…

Matt Scrafton's verdict on Burnley's 2-0 defeat to Arsenal

The latest news from the Premier League as Burnley prepare to visit relegation rivals West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.

West Ham United have been told how the future of one of their key players could pan out as they prepare to host Burnley in what already feels like a key moment in the battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Clarets will make the trip to the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon as Scott Parker looks to claim a win against his former club and ensure his side end the weekend sitting outside of the Premier League relegation zone. As it stands, Burnley lie three points and one place above their hosts - but it is the latter that go into the game on the back of a confidence-boosting win after they saw off Newcastle United with an impressive display on home soil on Sunday afternoon.

One of the stars of the show in that victory was Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta after he produced an eye-catching display and grabbed a goal against a club he was linked with prior to his move to West Ham. After impressing for the Hammers, Paqueta has been linked with several big money moves in recent months - and one onlooker believes a January deal would be ‘very hard’ for any interested party.

Football finance expert Stefan Borson has given his take on how Paqueta’s future at the London Stadium could look and revealed how much he thinks West Ham could demand if they were to allow the former Lyon midfielder to depart during the January transfer window.

He told Football Insider: “Well, there’s two sides to it. First of all, he’s not playing brilliantly. Secondly, he’s got the situation out of the way, which is obviously very positive. So, that does clear things up and, clearly, he can deliver if his mind’s right at a new club, so that’s all great. But he’s a year older than when we looked at it, when some of these numbers were banded around. I don’t think the numbers are probably right, to be honest, the numbers that we’ve had in the past.

“I think we’re going to get to a point where, in all likelihood, we’re looking at £50m, let’s say, but then there’s a very limited market for £50m players in January, so it’s a hard deal to do in January. Who would buy him for £50m in January? Who would buy him for £40m? It’s just not that kind of market for a player of his age. I do think the value’s come down, but I still possibly don’t think it’s going to have come down low enough to get a deal in January. I mean, you might be able to get it in the summer, but I think January is very hard.”

Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen to return to the Premier League and is reportedly showing an interest in succeeding Vitor Pereira at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

ESPN have claimed the former Manchester United head coach would be interested in speaking to the Molineux hierarchy about taking charge of the Premier League’s basement club following his departure from Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen earlier this season. However, the same report suggests one ‘sticking point’ in any possible agreement could be Wolves ‘reluctance to spend heavily during the January transfer window.
