Buffalo Bills GM makes admission about team’s lack of moves before trade deadline

Fresh off a strong 28-21 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, fans hoped that the Buffalo Bills would make a move to strengthen the squad ahead of the trade deadline. After another disappointing exit from the 2024 NFL playoffs, Buffalo entered this season with renewed expectations, but the competition became harder.

While some expected moves from the AFC East team, the Bills remained quiet, unable to make a trade, while others, such as divisional rivals New York Jets, completed two big deals with the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys.

Speaking of this, general manager Brandon Beane explained that he was actively seeking trades, but a major detail stopped him from completing any: opposing GMs. Bean said he had conversations regarding potential trades, but nothing came to fruition due to other executives’ reluctance.

“We tried on quite a few. A lot was ‘yeah, we’re not moving him,'” Bean said, per Joe Buscaglia.

In the end, he said he “went home as mad as any other fan,” but admitted he feels confident that the team can contend with their current roster. The Bills were one of those teams that could improve with a wide receiver.

Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman have failed to step up after Stefon Diggs left in 2024. They still have Josh Allen and James Cook, a terrific duo on offense, while Joey Bosa, Matt Milano, Jordan Phillips and more lead the defense.

After several years of chasing the Chiefs, the Bills could take that final step and advance to the Super Bowl in an AFC that appears to be up for grabs. However, it remains to be seen if the lack of movement ahead of the trade deadline backfires and they end up missing the big game again. At 6-2, they appear to be on the right track.
