Rams sign 6-foot, 242-pound kicker nicknamed 'The Thiccer Kicker'

The Los Angeles Rams passed the NFL trade deadline without making any major moves, though they did add Roger McCreary a week before the deadline.

But Sean McVay and the Rams didn't address another area of concern on the roster. Joshua Karty has struggled as the Rams' kicker this season, and a kicker addition wasn't off the table.

While Los Angeles didn't add a kicker via trade, they wound up signing one, as Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team reports. This kicker addition isn't a standard pickup, as this kicker is 6-foot, 242-pounds, and has an incredible nickname of "The Thiccer Kicker."

Rams sign 242-pound kicker to compete with Joshua Karty amid struggles

"The #Rams are signing K Harrison Mevis," Meirov reports, "a.k.a. 'The Thiccer Kicker' - who stands 6'0'', 242 lbs. He went 20-21 on field goals with the UFL's Birmingham Stallions."

If the Rams want to be serious Super Bowl contenders, their kicking game needs to drastically improve. Mevis's signing provides competition for Karty, while also being his replacement if Karty's struggles continue.

Mevis has spent time with the Carolina Panthers and New York Jets' practice squads this season, but has yet to appear in an NFL regular-season game.

The 23-year-old kicker went to Missouri, where from 2020 until 2023, he was 148-149 on extra point attempts, and 89-106 on field goal tries, for an 84 career field goal percentage.

Through Week 9 of the NFL season, Karty is 10-15 on field goal attempts, a 66.7 percentage. While the Rams are 6-2, tied atop the NFC West, they should be 7-1, but Karty's two blocked kicks against the Philadelphia Eagles led to a brutal loss.

McVay and the Rams know they need to prepare for a change at kicker if Karty can't turn things around, and the addition of Mevis, otherwise known as "The Thiccer Kicker," is a fun move to potentially address this issue.
