Packers Could Make Big Move For Free Agent CB

The Green Bay Packers‘ defense has been much better under coordinator Jeff Hafley.

He turned that unit around last season, and he’s taken things up a notch in his second year.

However, there have been some serious struggles at cornerback.

With that in mind, they could make a big move for a current free agent.

“The Packers are scheduling to work out CB Asante Samuel Jr, and if all goes well, they will seriously look into signing the CB, per a source,” Easton Butler wrote on X.

The Packers will be without Nate Hobbs for several weeks after he sustained a knee injury, and they could use some depth.

Hobbs had already lost his starting spot after weeks of struggles.

Samuel was a second-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2021 NFL Draft but has not played since having spinal fusion surgery this offseason.

The Packers have been on the wrong side of too many big plays, and now that Samuel is back to full strength, he could be a big addition for them.

Green Bay entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations but hasn’t lived up to those expectations.

The Packers have five NFC North games remaining, and with the division up for grabs, they can’t afford to pass on any opportunity.

It’s not every day that a player like Samuel becomes available, and while there will be some injury concerns, he’s likely worth the gamble.
