Analyst Reveals Discouraging Trend About Packers’ Special Teams

The Green Bay Packers have a stacked offense and a talented defense.

However, a team needs to excel in all three areas of the game to be considered a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Unfortunately for Green Bay, it has been lacking on special teams for a while, and insider Daire Carragher has pointed out a discouraging trend.

“The Packers rank dead last in the NFL in average punt return yardage (5.0). The last NFL team to average 5.0 return yards or fewer was the 2020 Green Bay Packers. The last team before that? The 2019 Green Bay Packers,” Carragher wrote on X.

The Packers hired coordinator Rich Bisaccia to solve those woes back in 2022, but he has left a lot to be desired.

This team isn’t getting any help from that unit, whether it’s because of penalties on returns or kicker Brandon McManus’ recent woes.

The Packers do have the second half of the season to turn things around.

But after watching several players get a chance at kick returns, it’s become evident that this might not be a personnel issue.

The Packers’ special teams rank last or near the bottom of the league in multiple categories, and it’s difficult to make a case for Bisaccia to keep his job beyond this season.

Green Bay entered the season with high expectations, and while special teams don’t get as much attention as offense or defense, they are necessary to win a championship.
