Lions add 3 offensive linemen to practice squad amid injury concerns

ALLEN PARK – With a banged-up offensive line heading into Week 10 versus the Washington Commanders, the Detroit Lions made some roster adjustments on Wednesday afternoon.

In addition to officially announcing the signing of Jack Conley – news that surfaced a day prior – the Lions announced they have added offensive linemen Chris Hubbard and Netane Muti to the practice squad as well.

Hubbard, who was on the free-agent market, is now on his sixth NFL stop after previous stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers, and New York Giants. The now 12-year NFL veteran has played 102 career games with 61 starts. Last season with the Giants, Hubbard played in eight games, starting in three of them. He allowed three sacks, 12 quarterback hits, and 28 pressures.

Muti is a familiar face within the organization, having signed a reserves/futures contract with them last year. Earlier this August, the Lions released the 6-foot-3, 325-pound lineman after he failed to make the 53-man roster. Before coming to Detroit, Muti saw action with the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.

Conley comes to Detroit after a brief stint with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent earlier this year. He was a three-year starter (2022-24) at Boston College and a college teammate of injured Lions guard Christian Mahogany.

Injuries began to pile up for the Lions’ offensive front following their 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings this past Sunday at Ford Field. Mahogany suffered a lower leg injury during the game, resulting in the medical staff carting him off the field. Additionally, guards Taylor Decker (knee) and Penei Sewell (undisclosed) both suffered injuries stemming from the game as well.

On Monday, Lions coach Dan Campbell shared that he did not expect their injuries to be anything long-term, but their status against the Commanders is not yet clear. Both players were reportedly not to practice on Wednesday as well.

As of now, it’s unlikely that Conley, Hubbard, or Muti will receive an elevation to the active roster ahead of the Week 10 game, but with the Lions’ next man up mentality and the communications issues within the unit, the Lions could be open to a shake-up based on what the coaching staff sees in practice.
