Real Madrid have been criticised for allowing Martin Zubimendi to join Arsenal in the summer transfer window. According to Jave Casquero, that was a “huge mistake” from Florentino Perez and Co.
[Marca cover comments from him today](https://www.marca.com/radio/2025/11/05/javi-casquero-error-gravisimo-zubimendi-real-madrid.html) in which he criticises Real Madrid for not getting the Spanish midfielder this summer. They were discussing Real Madrid’s defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Madrid were outplayed completely in the 1-0 defeat, with the midfield in particular struggling. Alexis Mac Allister scored the winning goal for Liverpool while Dominik Szoboszlai was impressive once again. In fact, if it were not for Thibaut Courtois he could have had a double.
Xabi Alonso’s side lost the battle against Liverpool, with several of their stars unable to compete. That was very much the case in midfield, where the Reds three were dominant throughout.
This current Madrid side lacks the midfielders of the past, in which the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro helped them to dominate games. Casquero thinks that should have been fixed I the summer, with Zubimendi. Instead, he was allowed to join Arsenal.
_“It’s a huge mistake that Zubimendi isn’t at Real Madrid,”_ he said about the Arsenal midfielder.
Whether there’s interest in future, remains to be seen. If Zubimendi continues to impress at the Emirates, we wouldn’t be surprised if Real Madrid come calling.
