Opinion: David Moyes has already given a big hint on where he wants Everton to spend in January

Everton manager David Moyes has already revealed what part of his transfer strategy may look like this January transfer window.

The winter transfer window is fast-approaching, and it’s glaringly obvious that Everton have a number of areas that need strengthening.

A striker will be top of David Moyes’ shortlist as Thierno Barry and Beto have just one Premier League goal between them this season.

A centre-back and a right-back are also expected to be targeted, and Moyes has already given an indication of where he will look to spend his cash this winter.

David Moyes will look to recruit from the Championship

Speaking back in January, Moyes told the media that part of Everton’s recruitment strategy going forward will be scouting the Championship.

It’s a league he has full belief in and has recruited from a lot over the years.

“I know we’re in a world where we can pick players from any continent to play in the Premier League,” the Scotsman explained.

“A long time ago, it wasn’t as easy and maybe people didn’t look as far. We continue to look closer to home, which is the Championship.

“Last year, the Championship produced some incredible players like (Morgan) Rogers, (Adam) Wharton, (Jaden) Philogene possibly.

“The Championship is always a place we should be looking to see.”

Around that time, Everton were looking at Tom Fellows, Maxime Esteve and Dan Neil, the latter two are now playing in the Premier League.

Who could Everton sign from the Championship?

So, who might Everton look at signing from the second tier this winter?

Well, in terms of a striker, the Toffees have looked at Millwall’s Mihailo Ivanovic, as he was on the shortlist in the summer.

Stoke City’s Divin Mubama may be an option, as Moyes worked with the England under-21 international at West Ham United.

Mubama is on loan from Manchester City and recently scored a hat-trick against Bristol City. QPR’s Richard Kone could be another one they have a look at.

In terms of a centre-back, Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis is widely regarded as one of the best in the league and has been linked to Everton in the past.

At right-back, Milan van Ewijk will no doubt be an exciting addition, as he’s the second top assister in the division.

So, there are plenty of talented players for Everton scouts to have a good look at before the window opens in eight weeks.
