Former Patriots coach Bill Belichick is now among nine individuals named as semifinalists in the Coach category for possible election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
The committee whittled the list down from 12.
One candidate emerges from the Coach category for the general election held by Pro Football Hall of Fame voters. The voting to name a finalist will be done Nov. 18.
Belichick is a six-time Super Bowl winning head coach with New England. He was also instrumental in two championships with the New York Giants as defensive coordinator.
Belichick has career coaching record of 333-178 (including the playoffs). Only Don Shula has more career wins.
Other notable semifinalists include former New York Giants and Jacksonville coach Tom Couhglin, former Green Bay and and Seattle coach Mike Holmgren, and former Los Angeles Raiders, Denver, and Washington coach Mike Holmgren.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026 will be announced at “NFL Honors” in San Francisco in February and enshrined in August in Canton.
