The Los Angeles Lakers got an unfortunate injury update regarding Austin Reaves on Wednesday, as NBA insider Chris Haynes announced that Reaves will miss the Lakers’ matchup with the San Antonio Spurs due to a groin injury.
Reaves had been holding down the fort in the early going for the Lakers while LeBron James has been out with a nerve injury, and Luka Doncic already missing four games so far. In seven games this season, Reaves is averaging 31.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game to help propel the Lakers to a 6-2 start to the season.
Reaves’ strong start is largely the reason that the Lakers have survived the injury bug they’ve been hit with to their stars. The team figures to be a potent threat in the Western Conference when they get back to full strength.
In the midst of a true breakout season, the Lakers are hopeful that Reaves’ injury is nothing serious, and hope to get him back on the court with Doncic sooner rather than later.
The point guard for the Lakers did participate in shootaround on Wednesday, but will sit for the second time this season.
The 27-year-old breakout guard will now miss a pivotal matchup against Victor Wembanyama and the 5-1 San Antonio Spurs.
