Winners: Man City stars Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku
A brace from Phil Foden either side of Erling Haaland’s latest goal, followed by Rayan Cherki’s stoppage time effort, helped Manchester City continue their unbeaten Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund.
The visitors started brightly at the Etihad on Wednesday night, with Karim Adeyemi in particular responsible for some early threatening runs towards goal, but Dortmund had yet to muster a shot on target before Foden curled a sumptuous opener from distance past goalkeeper Gregor Kobel in the 22nd minute.
Capitalising on the shift in momentum, City then doubled their advantage before the clock had even reached the half hour mark as Jeremy Doku’s cutback was thumped into the back of the net by Haaland, who chalked up his 18th club goal of the campaign in all competitions against his former club.
That tally includes five goals in four Champions League appearances, helping City to their third win so far in the league phase.
Including his two goals against Real Madrid from his last outing in the 2024-25 campaign, his latest strike also made Haaland the first man to score in five straight matches in this competition, with the Norwegian striker having previously done so for Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg.
City began the second half as they ended the first, comfortably in control, and just shy of the hour mark Foden doubled his personal tally with a near carbon copy of his first effort. Receiving the ball from Tijjani Reijnders outside the area, the England international turned towards goal and lashed a left-footed effort into the bottom left corner.

After a quadruple change by head coach Niko Kovac, Dortmund pulled one back through Waldemar Anton after a well-worked set piece.
The German side threatened to reduce the deficit further on a few occasions, but substitute Rayan Cherki soon ended any hopes of a comeback with a deflected strike in stoppage time.
