Manchester City are back in Premier League action this weekend as they host Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.

The Reds head into the fixture in fine form.

Arne Slot’s side have recorded back-to-back victories and clean sheets, following up a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League with a 1-0 triumph against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Alexis Mac Allister was the player who finally found a way past Thibaut Courtois, after the Real Madrid goalkeeper had earlier denied Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk with impressive saves.

Both sides are level on nine points from their opening four games of the league phase.

On City’s part, Pep Guardiola’s side were without Rodri for Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund.

The Spaniard returned to action at the weekend, coming off the bench in the 3-1 victory over Bournemouth after missing four matches across all competitions either side of the October international break.

However, he was once again unavailable for selection as City welcomed Dortmund to the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola was permitted to name a 23-man squad for the Champions League encounter but included only 22 players, with Rodri missing out.

Providing an update before kick-off, the City boss confirmed that the 29-year-old has suffered a fresh setback.

The midfielder endured an ACL injury that ruled him out for most of last season.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Guardiola said: “He does not feel perfect so that is why he do not take the risk.

“He will comeback, this is a little setback. He needs a bit more time to feel good and play football.

“It does not matter if he plays good or bad knowing that he is fine and will not be out for a while.”
