The fireworks started well before kick-off outside the Etihad Stadium as Bonfire Night in the UK got underway, but the action on the pitch got into full swing after 22 minutes of play, with Foden picking the ball up in space from Tijjani Reijnders and curling into the bottom left corner superbly from 20 yards for his 19th career Champions League goal.
Shortly before the half-hour mark, Haaland slammed in our second and his 18th goal across all competitions this season from 10 yards from Jeremy Doku’s cutback to put us in a commanding position.
We had the attacking intensity and almost added a swift third, but Reijnders’ goalbound strike was palmed away well by Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
After the interval, Foden further extended our lead with another unstoppable strike, again curling low into the bottom left corner with precision to claim his first ever brace in the competition.
The Englishman then almost turned provider, dinking towards the back post for Savinho to volley, but the Brazilian could only fire over the bar.
Waldemar Anton pulled a goal back for the visitors from close range with just under 20 minutes remaining, before Rayan Cherki added a fourth for us to claim three important League Phase points as we now sit inside the automatic qualification places, with 10 points from our opening four fixtures.
