There was concern over Jorrel Hato’s performance for Chelsea after he was handed a rare start in the Champions League against Qarabag, however Enzo Maresca didn’t seem to agree.
The Blues were held to a 2-2 draw by the Azerbaijani side, putting an end to the winning run they had been on in the competition.
Enzo Maresca made a number of changes from the win against Tottenham, however was forced to replace Romeo Lavia just minutes in after he picked up an injury.
The changes allowed for a start at the back for Hato, however it was a nightmare first half in particular for him after he was caught on the ball for Qarabag’s opener.

The Dutchman was also penalised for a handball in the area that saw them take the lead, before Alejandro Garnacho helped spare his blushes.
There was criticism over Hato’s performance, however Maresca actually believed the youngster started the game well before he suffered as a result of the whole team’s performance levels dropping.
He said to Football London: “Jorrel, like the team, started very good and then we started to do some mistakes. We need to improve and avoid.”
The manager has been searching for two defenders to stand out and nail down the central defensive positions this season in West London, and will not have got the performance he wanted from Hato and Tosin Adarabioyo.

Maresca’s decision made for him ahead of Wolves clash
As Chelsea prepare for a quick turnaround before returning to Premier League action, Maresca will be well aware changes are needed at the back.
The boss has to recall Josh Acheampong to the starting side for the game against Wolves, however the question remains who is best suited to partner him.
Both Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana didn’t feature against Qarabag, and enjoyed strong performances at the back against Spurs.
Despite excitement over the addition of Hato when he was signed, it looks as if he is going to need more time to settle before becoming a genuine option for the Blues.
