Journo names“special” player who has “hugely impressed” Chelsea scouts; 2026 transfer possible

Chelsea scouts have been hugely impressed by RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande

Chelsea have infamously adopted this transfer policy of bringing some of the best talents in world football to Cobham and having them compete against each other for a place in the starting eleven.

And we have seen some real winners emerge out of this policy, with the most recent being Estêvão on that flank. He came to Chelsea last summer after the Blues signed him for a fee which can go up to £51.4m, as agreed in the summer of 2024. The Brazilian is as good of a winger as we have seen at Stamford Bridge for quite some time.

And the Blues from West London have set their sights on bringing another highly rated star to the English shores in 2026. There have been links with Chelsea’s scouts keeping tabs on RB Leipzig wide forward Yan Diomande.

According to reputed transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, the Blues scouts are very impressed with the teenager. Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Chelsea Chronicle, he said:

“Diomande is special, Chelsea know all about him, indeed I am told they are one of the clubs who saw him in Spain before Leipzig swooped.

“His progress has been startling, Chelsea love a wide player and their scouts have been hugely impressed with Diomande, he is one we need to keep an eye on.”

There are a lot of wingers at the Bridge…

Chelsea have a lot of wingers in the current roster.

The Blues added Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens as left flank options last summer. And then Estêvão arrived as well after his 2024 agreement. Chelsea also have Geovany Quenda coming through the doors for the West Londoners next summer, with a deal already in place with Sporting Lisbon.

And despite having such a stack of wide forwards, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership have still been looking to bring in more talent out wide. And that is where links come into the picture.

Chelsea have competition for Yan Diomande

Yan Diomande has already been impressing in the German top tier this season. He has accumulated a couple of goals and assists each in nine appearances. And the teenager is already a full Ivory Coast international, showing how he has been counting his opportunities. The 18-year-old moved to RB Leipzig from Spanish side Leganes. However, if he were to keep this form, he should be on that flight again.

That being said, the Blues are not the only side interested in his signature, with Arsenal and Tottenham also looking to secure the teenager in 2026. But given that Arteta has been stacked with numbers out wide while Tottenham have shown not many signs of developing young players, Chelsea looks like a perfect destination for Diomande.
