Eagles proven wrong as things go from good to great for $76 million defender

Hindsight is 20-20 and right now the Philadelphia Eagles may be having some regret.

Following a recent social media post on X by user "AJ Muse," a Philadelphia superfan, the numbers don't lie about former Eagles EDGE now Arizona Cardinals Josh Sweat's current pass rush production.

Sweat has outperformed every one of his former teammates (along with his replacements) by registering seven sacks midway through the 2025 NFL season. So far, Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Zack Baun, Josh Uche, and Jihaad Campbell have combined for six sacks this season.

Not included in that metric is Moro Ojomo, who has been a delightful surprise for Philadelphia; however, it's worth noting that Ojomo's production could be viewed as a replacement for the $104 million departure of current New England Patriot Milton Williams.

Sweat has looked much better than what the Eagles current have at EDGE

The Eagles not only lost Williams and Sweat, but also Bryce Huff, who is now with the San Francisco 49ers, who has four sacks this year (which would be tied with the Eagles for most on the team), despite dealing with an injury this season.

The Eagles' ability to rush the passer has become so anemic that the team has called on two nearly retired players: Za'Darius Smith, who retired last month, and Brandon Graham, who retired after the 2024 Super Bowl victory but has since returned.

With the absence of Sweat and the lack of production by Jalyx Hunt and Josh Uche, the Eagles will lean on Graham and Nolan Smith (whose practice window just opened) to lead the charge for the back half of the season. Philly has currently registered 16 sacks this season, putting them on pace for 32, which is nine fewer than their 2024 total.
