Jayden Daniels Decision Looms After Commanders' Final Medical Meeting

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is expected to miss multiple weeks with the dislocated left elbow he suffered late in Sunday’s Week 9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

That being said, there’s still uncertainty about whether or not he’ll be able to return to the field at some point before the end of the Commanders’ 2025 NFL campaign.

Washington head coach Dan Quinn was asked about Daniels’ outlook during his media availability on Wednesday.

The team plans to go over all the available information in a “final medical meeting” before providing an update sometime later this week.

"We are going through a final medical meeting today regarding second opinions to put the plan together," Quinn said. "We should have an update for you here in the next day or so. Being thorough through the whole process… gather all the info and then make the decisions from there."

Daniels suffered his gruesome non-throwing-arm injury during the fourth quarter of Week 9’s blowout loss to the Seahawks. The reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year has dealt with multiple injuries already this season, including knee and hamstring issues that kept him off the field for three of the Commanders’ nine games so far.

The Commanders have not yet placed Daniels on the injured reserve. But if the team does decide to make that move, he’ll be officially ruled out until at least Washington’s Week 15 matchup against the New York Giants.

With a 3-6 record, the Commanders have an uphill battle to play their way into the postseason. Even if Daniels is healthy enough to play later in the year, it may not be worth it to bring him back for meaningless late-season football.

The Commanders, led by backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, will face off against the Detroit Lions in a difficult Week 10 matchup on Sunday.
