Pompey drew 0-0 with Wrexham on Wednesday evening to extend their run to five Championship matches without a win.
Ibane Bowat has revealed Pompey had to go back to the drawing board after Saturday’s dismal defeat to Birmingham City.
And the central defender is adamant there were still plenty of positives to take from their goalless draw against Wrexham.
It was a hugely-improved display from the 4-0 defeat to Birmingham at the weekend, which saw pressure grow on John Mousinho’s men.
And although the Blues were unable to find the back of the net, the former Fulham man is adamant there are still plenty of positives to take from the performance.
Reaction from Pompey dressing room after Wrexham draw
He said: ‘It was a good reaction after a poor result last weekend. We really emended that today.
‘It was unfortunate not to put the ball in the back of the net but it’s a clean sheet and there was a lot to take forward into the next game.
There were (plenty of positive signs). Especially defensively we were more solid and going forward we were creating a lot more chances, getting shots on goal and it helped having players coming in to give us that extra boost.
‘There’s a lot of positives to take but it’s unfortunate that we didn’t put the ball in the back of the net.
‘There’s a lot we can learn from last weekend’s game and emend and be better.
‘The Championship is not an easy league so in this moment it’s important to stick together and remember what we are good at.
‘We have to get the crowd behind us and work on the fundamentals, being solid and the rest will take care of itself, which is what we saw today.
‘We’ve gone back to the drawing board and worked on a few things and made sure to sort that out.
‘Especially at home we haven’t been getting great results and we are really trying to work hard and change that narrative and be a harder team to beat at home - like we were last season.
‘It was really important to bounce back from that defeat.’

Despite the result, Wednesday’s goalless draw represented Bowat’s first full 90 minutes in a Pompey shirt following his move from Fulham in August 2024.
And although the centre-back still feel ‘rough’, he is adamant he will be recovered for Saturday’s long trip to Hull City.
‘It’s a little bit rough but these next couple of days are going to be important to recover and to get mentally and physically prepared for this weekend's game.
