Spurs' 2nd overall pick, [Dylan Harper, was off to a historic start](https://airalamo.com/only-one-nba-rookie-ever-matched-dylan-harper-insane-start-he-spur-now). The Rutgers guard was slicing and dicing through the competition, looking as good as advertised. With his outstanding play, he helped propel the Spurs to the top of the conference early in the year. However, before he could get entirely comfortable, the rookie would be forced to miss time.
The rookie's calf strain is a devastating blow to a Spurs team that has shocked everyone around the league. Yet, the Spurs have come prepared. All offseason, we applauded the Spurs for their superior depth; now it's time to see it in action. With De'Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper out, head coach Mitch Johnson can pull out his secret weapon: Lindy Waters III.
Lindy Waters III is ready for his oppurtunity to shine
------------------------------------------------------
In the aftermath of Chris Paul's departure and several other Spurs exiting San Antonio in the offseason, the Spurs had some roster spots to fill. Deep on the roster, many don't expect these players to hit the floor. Well, as you should know, injuries happen, making these choice players quintessential to a team's success.
One of these deep roster pick-ups happened to be former Detroit Pistons guard Lindy Waters III. For his entire career, Waters has picked up minutes when he could and never found himself a comfortable home. Despite his lack of a mainstay team, the guard has produced everywhere he has gone.
Over the course of his career, Waters has averaged 5.2 points and shot 36.6% from beyond the arc. While the points won't jump off the page, the three-point shooting should. This is a guy who knows how to bring the heat. Whenever the sharpshooter has gotten live NBA minutes, he has proved that he can fire it from deep.
Now, just six games into the regular season, Waters can get his chance to prove that he deserves a place on this Spurs roster. Depending on the decisions of head coach Mitch Johnson, Waters may serve a crucial role for the Spurs as the bench unit's lead guard. While he won't be given the responsibilities of Dylan Harper, he must produce as a scorer and playmaker to help fill the void.
If you watched Lindy in preseason, you would know that he is [ready to make his presence felt.](https://airalamo.com/spurs-just-found-latest-hidden-gem-after-sizzling-preseason-outburst) As the Spurs need shooting, Waters could instantly make an impact on the Spurs' early-season success. If he can drain shots like we know he can, the Dylan Harper injury won't hurt quite as badly.
