Packers need even more from their highest-graded player

Micah Parsons has at times been every bit as advertised, and even more dominant than the Packers expected, after acquiring the All-Pro edge rusher in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys.

In his first eight games as a Packer, and despite overcoming an injured back through much of the season’s first month, Parsons has already logged 6.5 sacks, to go with his 10 total tackles.

Parsons has also been a vital piece of coordinator Jeff Hafley’s defense allowing a league-low 46 explosive plays.

Pro Football Focus has high marks for Packers’ Micah Parsons

Over at Pro Football Focus, Bradley Locker put together a list of every team’s highest-graded players. Unsurprisingly, Parsons topped the list for Green Bay.

“The king’s ransom paid to acquire a player of Parsons’ caliber has been well worth it,” Locker writes for PFF. “So far for Green Bay. Parsons’ 92.6 PFF pass-rushing grade is tied for Garrett to lead all edge rushers, and his 23.4% pass-rush win rate is fourth among qualifiers.”

Trading for Parsons is the kind of move that the Packers make with sights set on maximizing the chances of winning a Super Bowl around quarterback Jordan Love, and elevating a dominant defense capable of playing a complementary brand of dominant football.

Sunday’s slip up against the Panthers not withstanding, if Parsons can continue to play at this high level, and Green Bay can manage to find some consistency from week-to-week, the trade is going to be well worth it and potentially the driving force behind a championship run.
