Kosmo is expecting the county’s contenders to stand up in district finals

Despite any rumors you may have heard, Kosmo, unlike the New York Jets, was not fielding any calls for his most prized assets this week.

That means the crystal ball, and Kosmo’s boyish good looks (stop snickering over there!), aren’t going anywhere.

Although there weren’t as many close games as we might’ve liked on the opening weekend of playoffs, Kosmo wishes a farewell to West Bloomfield, the footballers from Farmington, Walled Lake Western and Mott. For some, it’s an early jump on basketball season, though Kosmo only knows of using rocks as a TV stand. Dribbling? Not so much.

Following a 5-2 slate of picks from Round 1, Kosmo is ready to pick some district champions. Rumor has it this Friday could be a wet one, so hold onto the ball, and your hats.

Kosmo

Dexter at South Lyon, 7 p.m. — Will the last Lakes Valley Conference team remaining please stand up? Feasting on your rivals on consecutive weekends is no guarantee, so the Lions should be applauded for [taking care of business](https://www.theoaklandpress.com/2025/11/01/no-7-lions-complete-sweep-of-rival-east-in-playoff-rematch-move-on-to-district-finals/). Any flatness they showed against their rivals, though, can’t be afforded against the Dreadnaughts and Cooper Arnedt, who was nearly flawless in their 42-7 blowout of Livonia Franklin. Both these teams can and should move the ball. Kosmo says: Dexter

Clarkston Everest Collegiate at Madison Heights Madison, 7 p.m. — The Eagles haven’t tasted defeat since Week 2 against Marine City, and other than a 38-34 win at Algonac, most their games haven’t even been close. The Mountaineers, meanwhile, haven’t found themselves in a shootout, but despite having three more losses, they’re probably the favorites, as it can be with teams tested by the Catholic League schedule. Here’s going against a bit of conventional wisdom — blame the rocks in Kosmo’s head. Kosmo says: Madison

Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, 7 p.m. — There’s been some top-tier games that the Eaglets have hosted in the past several years, but Milewski Field might feel like it’s hosting an AC/DC concert (circa 1985, not 2025) on Friday. The Warriors are for real and Kosmo feels as if this game would be more fitting for regionals than the second round, but such is life. Nothing against the visitors, whose time is coming (if it hasn’t arrived already), but it would be a shock to see St. Mary’s fall twice in less than a month at home to Rice. Kosmo says: Orchard Lake St. Mary’s

Grand Blanc at Clarkston, 7 p.m. — The two winners of one of D1’s toughest districts square dance in C-Town Friday. While Jake Morrow at QB is familiar to those who saw Grand Blanc make a nice playoff run last season, running back Jeremiah Coleman, who had over 100 yards rushing and found the end zone against Oxford, is the bell-cow back, but Morrow can run, too, and the Bobcats will mix it up with Ashton Brown, a sophomore. If Clarkston can stay balanced and avoid turnovers, then slowing, not stopping Grand Blanc, when it has the ball should allow the Wolves to move on. Kosmo says: Clarkston

Stoney Creek at Rochester Adams, 7 p.m. — It’s another rematch that shouldn’t disappoint. When Ryland Watters couldn’t finish it out in the game just over a month ago, Lorenzo Sartor, who found the end zone last week against Rochester, scored the game-winning TD to beat the Cougars last time in OT. Watters or not, Adams has proven itself capable of coming out on top of tough playoff games, but he raises the ceiling. Stoney Creek fought its tail off to add to its playoff lore last week, and the talent is there to pull it off. Kosmo says: Adams

Warren Cousino at Birmingham Groves, 7 p.m. — Take a bow, Jeremiah Whitley. The Groves junior was busting through holes like the Kool-Aid man and breaking records along the way in a 300-yard, six-TD performance against Warren Mott. The Patriots fed on turnovers committed by Seaholm last week, but this feels like a Falcons team that has continued to get better as the year’s gone on and seems fit to win another district title. Kosmo says: Groves

Brighton at Detroit Catholic Central, 7 p.m. — No padding the record here, Kosmo promises. Just a little recognition for the Bulldogs, who mostly kicked their way past West Bloomfield in last week’s district semifinal. They played fundamentally sound, but it’s going to take more than that to beat a Shamrocks’ defense that hasn’t allowed more than 14 points to a team from the ol’ US of A (CC beat Clarkson Football North from Ontario 42-28) all season. The winner of this game gets either Grand Blanc or Clarkston in regionals. Kosmo says: Catholic Central
