Nine players who could miss Liverpool's clash against Man City as new injury concern confirmed

Liverpool 1-0 Real Madrid: Match Verdict

Liverpool team news ahead of the Premier League clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool prepare for one of their biggest games of the season when they travel to Manchester City on Sunday (16.30 GMT).

The Reds have picked up their form after a difficult run of results. Following six defeats in seven games in all competitions, including four successive Premier League losses, there were concerns about Arne Slot’s side’s credentials to challenge for major silverware this season.

However, their recent poor run of results mean they trail Premier League leaders Arsenal by seven points. There will need to be a significant swing for the Reds to defend their title - and the trip to City feels like somewhat of a must-win for both teams, especially if the Gunners beat Sunderland the night before.

Ahead of the game between the modern-day rivals, here’s a look at the team news for both sides.

Liverpool team news

Alexander Isak - doubt

The £125m British record signing has missed the past three games because of a groin problem. Isak has been called into Sweden’s squad for the upcoming international break but it remains to be seen whether he can feature against City.

Alisson Becker - out

The goalkeeper has already been ruled out of action for the game with a hamstring problem. Alisson also has not been called into Brazil’s squad.

Jeremie Frimpong - out

The former Bayer Leverkusen man is still unavailable because of an ongoing hamstring issue.

Giovanni Leoni - out

The centre-back will not play again this season after sustaining an ACL injury on his debut in September.

Jayden Danns - out

The 19-year-old striker has had a frustrating time with injuries over the past year and finds himself back on the treatment table with a hamstring problem.

Stefan Bajectic - out

The midfielder has yet to make an appearance for Liverpool this season. Bajcetic had hamstring surgery in the summer after suffering his problem on loan at Las Palmas last season.

Man City team news

Mateo Kovacic - out

The midfielder has picked up a recurrence of a foot problem and reports suggest that he requires surgery.

Rodri - doubt

The midfielder was absent for City’s 4-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Guardiola said before the game: “He does not feel perfect so that is why he do not take the risk. He will come back, this is a little setback. He needs a bit more time to feel good and play football. It does not matter if he plays good or bad knowing that he is fine and will not be out for a while.”
