Dominik Szoboszlai's Champions League outing forces Stephen Warnock to say ‘wow’ after what he did for Liverpool

Dominik Szoboszlai has left Stephen Warnock in awe after the performance he put in for Liverpool against Real Madrid in their Champions League clash on Tuesday.

The attacking midfielder was used in his natural position with the Hungarian’s assist for Alexis Mac Allister being the goal that won Liverpool the game.

Szoboszlai ended up covering the vast majority of the pitch and managed to get up and down like it was nothing.

It’s clear that the 25-year-old is quickly becoming a fan favourite due to the amount of quality he brings to Liverpool’s team each week.

However, the fact that he forced Warnock to audibly say “wow” is the icing on top of the cake.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s never-ending energy for Liverpool left Stephen Warnock aghast

One thing that Szoboszlai has always had in his locker is that he never seems to run out of energy.

The Hungarian is constantly pressing at any chance he gets with Liverpool’s pre-season fitness testing often going his way.

His work rate, coupled with his ability to score and assist his teammates, makes him a key player for Arne Slot, and without him, the Reds would be far worse off.

And now, while speaking on the BBC’s Football Daily Podcast, Warnock has shared his thoughts on who should be starting between Florian Wirtz and Szoboszlai.

“You add in Szoboszlai’s, I mean, wow. The energy the guy has, the recovery challenges, but then his next thing is he’s getting to the edge of the penalty area, he’s running up the pitch,” he said.

“Such an impressive performance from that guy. And don’t forget, there was talk of Wirtz taking his place, and he’s gone, absolutely not. You are not having my place.”

Liverpool have finally found their strongest starting XI after their new signings start to settle in

Since so many players came and went in the summer transfer window, Liverpool have struggled to get into a decent run of form.

The start of the 2025-26 season now just feels like an anomaly with an incredible amount of luck going their way, with things such as last-minute winners occurring in every other game.

October was tough and, even though we’re only a few days into November, it’s already clear that Liverpool have found their strongest XI.

Everyone who played against Real Madrid on Tuesday deserves to start against Manchester City on Sunday and for the foreseeable future.

Indeed, this would mean that some, such as Cody Gakpo, would miss out, but if it’s for the betterment of the team, there’s no reason why he can’t be used as an impact substitute towards the end of the game.

Some of their new signings will become essential in the future, but for now, Liverpool need to stick with what’s working and build on their last two performances.
