The current crop of U21 stars is an impressive bunch at Leeds United, with Harry Gray the star of the show. But his goals have come thanks to the form of Rhys Chadwick.
As Gray wins the headlines and plaudits because of his name and his goals, it is Chadwick who has turned provider in Scott Gardner’s second string. Last season, Chadwick had a hand in a whopping 26 goals.
Despite a lack of options in the 10 role last season in Daniel Farke’s senior side, Chadwick was never given a go. That is despite Farke priding himself on having faith in young players and bringing them through.
However, he was a part of the travelling squad to Germany and featured in pre-season games. Chadwick has also become a regular member of first-team training under Farke, alongside Gray and Sam Chambers.

Rhys Chadwick danger emerges, and Leeds need to take action
Despite his form and how close he is to breaking into the senior side under Farke, with Chadwick pictured in Leeds’ first-team photo and now a cemented member in training, his Leeds contract is running out.
Still only 18 until February, Chadwick signed a two-year deal in 2024, which would keep him at Elland Road until the summer of 2026. Now, he is due to enter the final six months of his Leeds contract.
When he turns 19 in February, Leeds won’t have any power in preventing Chadwick from moving abroad, while English clubs could make a move now. Leeds must take action and sort out Chadwick’s future.
If Farke does have a so-called faith in younger players, then Chadwick should be handed a new contract. Leeds have tied up deals for Alfie Cresswell and Gray so far, and surely Chadwick has to be the next one.

MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES
Which other Leeds players will see their deals end in June 2026?
Aside from Chadwick, there are currently four players out of contract next summer. Three of which are goalkeepers, with Karl Darlow, Illan Meslier and Alex Cairns all set to leave Leeds in June, as things stand.
There are three more in the U21 side. Lewis Pirie is set for a short loan to Guiseley, with the striker about to enter the last six months. Decisions need to be made for Devon Brockie and Connor Douglas, too.
But in Chadwick’s case, Leeds are running out of time to secure the playmaker’s future and given he has been in senior training and is a part of Farke’s senior side now, Leeds have got to hand him a new deal.
