Packers’ MarShawn Lloyd trying to uncover real reason behind his lingering injuries

The Green Bay Packers are happy and content with star running back Josh Jacobs leading the charge on the ground.

Jacobs has been a bellcow for Green Bay’s rushing attack, as he already has a total of 141 carries for 534 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Running back Emanuel Wilson is the next on the team with the most rushing attempts at only 41 carries. The former Alabama Crimson Tide star running back is always going to be the top option on the ground for Green Bay as long as he’s healthy, but the team is still hopeful that MarShawn Lloyd will be able to return to action and make his 2025 NFL season debut sooner rather than later.

Lloyd looked like he was ready to play an entire season after missing a bunch of games due to injuries in the 2024 campaign. However, he suffered a hamstring injury in the summer, forcing the Packers to put him on the injured reserve.

Packers’ Lloyd still searching for answers amid injury absence

Green Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd (32) and Indianapolis Colts cornerback Chris Lammons (38) miss a long pass on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, during a game against the Green Bay Packers at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

It doesn’t seem that Lloyd is close to a return, with Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur noting in late October that the running back won’t be in action any time soon.

For now, Lloyd continues to find an answer to his health woes.

Via Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

The Packers still have high hopes for Lloyd but until he can overcome the soft-tissue injuries that have plagued his short career, he’s not going to get on the field. Lloyd has met with more specialists to help figure out imbalances in his body that may be causing the hamstring and groin injuries that have sidelined him. It may all stem from a knee injury he suffered in college.

Selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Packers, Lloyd appeared in only one game in his rookie season with six carries for 15 rushing yards. Before turning pro, he played two years with the South Carolina Gamecocks and another with the USC Trojans.
