As a member of the NBL’s Next Stars program, Kouakou-Heugue is on a two-year contract – a unique structure that involves the player, the club, and the league itself, rather than a standard team-issued deal.
Sources indicate that both the NBL and Perth Wildcats are reluctant to release the young French prospect and intend to hold him to his contract unless new arrangements can be negotiated.
It’s understood that the Wildcats are seeking a buyout from Élan Chalon to facilitate the move.

Foxsports.com.au understands multiple NBA scouts consider Kouakou-Heugue a possible Top 5 pick in 2027, making him a valuable member of the Next Star program for the NBL.
The French prospect has averaged three points, two rebounds, and shot 66% from the field in limited minutes this season.
The other current Next Stars are Karim Lopez (NZ Breakers), Dash Daniels (Melbourne United) and Malique Lewis (SEM Phoenix).
