Phil Foden earns rave reviews in German media after 'class' display for Man City vs Dortmund

Phil Foden was one of the standout performers as Manchester City beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Erling Haaland scored again, moving himself into the top 10 all-time Champions League goalscorers list with 54 goals in 52 matches.

It was a productive night for Pep Guardiola’s men overall, but it was Phil Foden who stood out among the crowd.

German press react to Phil Foden performance vs Dortmund

During the fixture, BBC pundits discussed Foden returning to the England squad amid his upturn in form.

Thomas Tuchel has dropped the City ace recently amid a dip in performances, but Spiegel suggested he ‘silenced his critics’ on Wednesday.

They called Foden ‘flawless’ and wrote that ‘the once best player in English football seems to be well on his way back to his former glory’.

Elsewhere, Sportschau mentioned how the Man City and England star has gone through a ‘personal slump’ but showed his ‘class’ with more than just his goals when playing against Dortmund.

Haller Kreisblatt also commented on the ‘class’ of the 25-year-old. They wrote: “Foden once more demonstrated his class and precise shooting technique with his second goal of the evening.”

What Thomas Tuchel has said about Phil Foden

Foden has not made an appearance for England since March of this year.

The German coach commented on the absence of the Man City player during a press conference after confirming his squad for the October international break.

When asked if there was a problem with Jude Bellingham, who was also out of the squad, he said: “No. There is also no problem with Phil Foden or Jack Grealish either.”

“This is the decision, if they like it or not. They know my appreciation, they know I clearly see and observe how good Phil is at the moment for Manchester City.”

England return to action next week with World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania.
