FC Barcelona drew 3-3 with Club Brugge and, despite the positives in attack, the defending left a lot to be desired.
The back line was simply non-existent for each of the three goals Hansi Flick’s team conceded last night, with there being structural problems that need addressing.
Eric Garcia was among the defenders in the back line and he suffered what he thinks is a [broken nose](https://semprebarca.com/i-think-barcelona-defender-provides-self-medical-diagnosis-after-injury-against-club-brugge/) in the closing stages.
After the game, he spoke about Barcelona’s defensive issues and analysed the potential weaknesses. As quoted by [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20251105/1002564236/eric-garcia-creo-me-roto-nariz.html), he said:
**“They’re creating a lot of danger on counterattacks. With two passes, they’re in our box and we need to fix that. The team reacted well, but when you’re chasing the game, you score and five minutes later they score again, it’s tough—but we have to keep going, there’s no other choice. I don’t think it’s about the defensive line; we all attack and defend together. We’re losing the ball in difficult areas that benefit the opponent, and that’s something we need to minimize. It’s pretty clear. In football, after all, with all the time-wasting and substitutions, they could’ve let us take that last corner.”**
Among Barcelona’s better performers this season, Eric has grown in leaps and bounds and become a reliable footballer for Hansi Flick.
He has been the chosen one in most games to partner Pau Cubarsi at the back and has also showcased his versatility by playing as a right-back ahead of Jules Kounde on occasion.
These issues are not down to the personnel. Hansi Flick has work to do from a structural point of view. If not, this high line will be incredibly unsustainable on the biggest stages. Let’s wait and see how the German coach addresses the problem.
